One of my favorite parts of summer is being able to lounge on the beach with a good book. It really is what I look forward to all year. The hot sun, the waves crashing against the shore, sand in between my toes; and of course that really great book to get lost in. A very personal opinion, but I feel the best books are the ones released in the summer. They are fun, adventurous and of course, typically romantic. Ugh, a summer romance, what’s better? It is pretty obvious how much I enjoy a good “beach read.”
Beach Read by Emily Henry is the “beach read” for all your trips to the beach this summer. After putting together my Most Anticipated Books, May 2020 list (which included Beach Read, obviously) I couldn’t wait to read the book. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, I really try not to, but I knew this book was going to be it for me. And it was. Sometimes you just click with a book cover and description after one look and thats okay!
I was able to read this before the release thanks to the lovely team at Penguin Random House and plan I taking it to the beach with me to read it again-it was that good! Beach Read not only has the flirty romance that I live for, but its fun, adventurous, spontaneous and entertaining.
The story line is just adorable too. Two writers: January a hopeless romantic who fittingly writes romance novels and Gus, a true America novelist; are now living in neighboring beach houses. Did I mention they went to college together a while back and January always considered Gus the enemy? Now, both suffering from writers block; they challenge each other to write a best selling novel in the other person’s genre. They agree to spend the summer writing during the weeks and then conducting research/educate each other on the opposite genre on the weekends. Falling for each other is not an element of the challenge but you know; sometimes you can’t help who you fall for when.
The entire story is told from January’s perspective and as a reader, we are really let into all aspects of her life. Although she feels as if her entire life is falling apart, the truth of the matter is that she is truly becoming into her own after a very difficult time in her life. The story through January’s perspective is that much more interesting as she has a very distinct voice.
I absolutely adored this book and I can’t wait to take it to the beach with me this summer to read again! If you are looking for a light hearted, perfect “beach read,” then Beach Read by Emily Henry is for you.
